Life in Texas

Hi everybody. Life in Texas is pretty much the same. We are having a break from the heat, now that it is only into the 90's and not the 100's. Hard to believe I am saying that.

Last week my mom (Maureen) was in town because Ryan had to go to Denver for Federal Chaplain training. He met lots of chaplains of all religions. He became friends with one in particular, a Russian who used to be Eastern Orthodox, but is now Southern Baptist. That's quite a switch! Unfortunately he was sick most of the week with altitude sickness, suffering from major joint pain. We're hoping that in the future he'll be more acclimated when he has to go back to Denver for further training, or that they might have it someplace else.

The kids are getting all geared up for school. Their first day is on Tuesday August 26. This will be the first year that all 3 older ones are all in school. Sarah will be in 3rd, RJ in 2nd, and John in Kindergarten. It will be pretty quiet around here!

We've been doing lots of library check-outs, keeping the reading going all summer long. Sarah, RJ, and John all participated in the library's summer reading program and all 3 earned a free ticket to the city pool. It's more like a water park, really. It costs $5.50 per person so getting a free pass is great for us!

Maura is taking lots of steps now. Her preferred mode of transportation is crawling, but she's getting the knack of walking too. And she's only 10 and a half months old!!!

I hope everyone checks us out every once in a while to see what's going on. I'll try to update this more often. Take care!
